Аn online tool that brings together decades of subsurface data and geological expertise from across Europe.

We’re proud to announce the launch of the Pan-European Atlas of Sustainable GeoEnergy Capacities, an online tool that brings together decades of subsurface data and geological expertise from across Europe.

This marks a major milestone in the GSEU project, as we move closer to our goal of transforming the consortium’s expertise into accessible, impactful tools.

The current version of the Atlas highlights opportunities for CO₂ storage and deep geothermal energy - but this is just the beginning. Future updates will expand the scope to include additional thematics such as hydrogen storage.

The launch event took place in Brussels and featured an opening speech by Julie Hollis, Secretary General of EuroGeoSurveys, followed by a presentation of the Atlas by Maayke Koevoets (TNO), lead of the GSEU GeoEnergy Work Package.

A panel discussion brought together GSEU experts and key European Commission stakeholders:

  • Luca Giovannelli (DG RTD)
  • Daniel Kitscha (DG CLIMA)
  • Paula Fernández-Canteli Álvarez (IGME / GSEU)
  • Ceri Vincent (BGS / GSEU)
  • Dražen Tumara (DG JRC)
