As a partner of the TUTKOVSKY International Hub of Natural Resources, the association was given the right to make proposals on awarding the highest award of the Hub, the ‘For Outstanding Merits’ named after Pavlo Tutkovsky.
The medal was designed and made on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Geological Survey of Ukraine. The medal, like the Hub, bears the name of the outstanding Ukrainian geologist and geographer Pavlo Tutkovsky (1858–1930), a professor of Kyiv University, one of the founders and first full members of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1918), the organizer and first director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1926-1930).
For devotion to geology and a significant contribution to its development, 290 people were awarded with gold lapel badges and 327 with silver lapel badges while 337 received ‘For Merit’ medals of all degrees. 202 geologists received geological hammers engraved with their names. According to the Ukrainian Mineralogical Society, 14 geologists-mineralogists were awarded with the medal ‘For Contribution to Mineralogy’.
