A new factsheet presents the pan-European CO₂ Storage Atlas, highlighting the role of harmonised geological data in identifying and assessing suitable underground CO₂ storage sites. The publication supports the advancement of carbon capture and storage (CCS) across Europe and contributes to the achievement of climate neutrality goals.

A new factsheet presents the pan-European CO₂ Storage Atlas, a comprehensive resource designed to support the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) across Europe. The publication explains how harmonised geological information enables the identification and assessment of suitable deep underground formations capable of safely and permanently storing carbon dioxide (CO₂).

The atlas provides valuable insights into the location, storage capacity, and readiness of potential CO₂ storage sites, helping governments, geological surveys, researchers, and industry stakeholders make informed decisions when planning future CCS projects. By improving access to consistent geological data, it facilitates cross-border cooperation and contributes to the efficient deployment of carbon storage infrastructure throughout Europe.
