The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law on the corporatization of the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant (SkhidGZK), aimed at ensuring the preservation and further development of Ukraine’s only enterprise engaged in uranium ore mining and the production of natural uranium concentrate.

The next stage will involve the integration of SkhidGZK into NAEC Energoatom, which is subsequently planned to be transformed into a vertically integrated holding company. It will oversee the entire technological cycle, from uranium ore mining and the production of uranium concentrate to electricity generation.

In July, the Cabinet of Ministers also issued a protocol decision to provide SkhidGZK with a loan of UAH 555 million through the end of 2027.

SkhidGZK is the largest uranium mining and processing enterprise in Europe and the only one in Ukraine engaged in uranium ore extraction and the production of natural uranium concentrate, which is used to manufacture nuclear fuel for Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
