On the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the provision of repayable financial assistance amounting to 555 million hryvnias to the state-owned enterprise ‘Eastern Mining and Processing Plant’, to be provided by NAEK ‘Energoatom’. The loan will remain in force until the end of 2027 and is intended to stabilise the enterprise’s operations and increase uranium ore extraction and the production of uranium oxide concentrate. The Eastern Mining and Processing Plant’s development plan provides for the purchase of new mining equipment, drilling works, the construction of new mining levels, the refurbishment of hoisting installations and mine ventilation systems, as well as the design and construction of a new sulphuric acid plant with a capacity of 85,000 tonnes per year.
The document also provides for a gradual increase in staff salaries in 2026. It is expected that the implementation of these measures, together with the corporatisation of the enterprise, will enable SkhidGZK to emerge from its difficult financial situation and integrate it into Ukraine’s unified nuclear energy production chain.
