During the UNECE Resource Management Week 2026, Rudi Ruggeri, EFG delegate from the Italian National Association CNG (Consiglio Nazionale dei Geologi), has been elected Vice-Chair to the Bureau of the Expert Group on Resource Management (EGRM). The week-long event was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 27 April to 1 May 2026, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, technical experts, academia, civil society, and youth to advance sustainable resource management in the context of the global energy transition.

This year’s sessions were held under the overarching theme of managing resources for the energy transition, centring on the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) as key tools for promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainability in resource governance. Rudi Ruggeri will represent EFG within the group, and his term will continue through to the end of the 19th session.

“I’m honoured to be elected Vice-Chair of the UNECE Expert Group on Resource Management Bureau. This role represents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to advancing sustainable resource management at European level first and also at an international level. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues across countries and disciplines to drive impactful, forward-looking solutions. I’m very grateful for the trust and excited for the work ahead.”. Rudi Ruggeri.

EFG continues to play an active role as a stakeholder in the UNECE Expert Group on Resource Management, contributing geoscience expertise to international resource governance discussions.
