On 28 August 2026, a round-table discussion entitled ‘Environmental Strategy for the Post-War Recovery of Regions and Urban Agglomerations Affected by Human Activity’ was held, organised by the State Institution ‘Scientific Centre for Mining Geology, Geoecology and Infrastructure Development of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
Participants at the round table discussed pressing issues relating to the environmental restoration of industrially contaminated areas and the development of approaches to Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
Following the event, there are plans to produce an electronic monograph summarising the participants’ findings and proposals regarding an environmental strategy for the restoration of regions and urban agglomerations.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of memoranda of cooperation between representatives of academic, industrial and expert organisations.
The Ukrainian Association of geologists also signed an Agreement on Scientific and Scientific-Technical Cooperation with the State Institution ‘Scientific Centre for Mining Geology, Geoecology and Infrastructure Development of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine’.
The document aims to develop joint scientific and expert activities in the fields of geology, geoecology and the restoration of areas affected by industrial activity. Among the modern approaches that may be useful for such recovery are the experience of the European GSEU project and the opportunities offered by the ONEGEO.COM Global Digital Platform.
