The European Commission has launched a platform to support companies in accessing strategic raw materials and energy resources, enhancing their competitiveness, and promoting sustainable development.

The EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform is a comprehensive tool developed by the European Commission to help companies secure strategic raw materials and energy resources, strengthen their competitiveness, and ensure sustainable growth.

The platform encompasses several specialized mechanisms:

  • Hydrogen Mechanism – accelerates the development of markets for hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and eSAF, supporting the decarbonization of hard-to-electrify sectors and heavy industry.
  • Raw Materials Mechanism – ensures access to strategic minerals for Europe’s competitiveness, supports business cases for strategic projects, and strengthens the resilience of supply chains.
  • Gas Mechanism – fosters the growth of the biomethane market and joint gas purchasing, supporting sustainable emissions reduction, energy security, and affordable energy across the EU.

The platform is designed for European companies of all sizes. It operates through specialized mechanisms that support strategic project business cases, stimulate new market creation, facilitate access to energy resources and strategic raw materials, and promote sustainable and diversified supply.

The platform mechanisms enable the matching of supply and demand for existing and future raw materials, support project development within the EU and in third countries, connect buyers and suppliers with financial support and storage service providers, and foster collaboration among companies through demand aggregation, joint purchasing, and investment consortia.

During Raw Materials Week on 18 November 2025, the European Commission opened registration for the new Raw Materials Mechanism under the Platform.
