The Interagency Working Group discussed long-term solutions for mine water management aimed at protecting the water resources of the Inhulets River basin

In Ukraine, the search continues for long-term solutions to manage mine water in the Ingulets River basin, with the aim of protecting water resources and the environment. This issue was the key topic of the meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the Management of Mineralised Mine Water. Among the priority tasks are ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the pumping stations that extract mine water and settling outstanding debts for electricity consumed, as a shutdown of the pumping systems could lead to the accumulation of mine water and create additional environmental risks.

Modern technological solutions are also being considered, in particular the discharge of mine water into underground aquifers unsuitable for domestic use.
