EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) has published a new Geoheritage Factsheet dedicated to geological heritage - unique geological features and landscapes of the Earth that hold scientific, educational and touristic value.

The Geoheritage Factsheet clearly and concisely explains why the conservation of geological features is important for science, how geosites help researchers study the history of our planet, understand past climate and environmental changes, and support education and the sustainable development of local communities.

The document emphasises the need for legal protection and responsible management of geosites, as Geoheritage is a non-renewable resource formed over millions of years. It also provides examples of well-known European geosites - including caves, volcanoes, coastlines, fjords and rock formations - demonstrating how these natural features combine scientific significance with educational and tourism value.
