The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) has submitted its response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act, highlighting the essential role of geoscience in achieving Europe’s industrial, energy and climate objectives.

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) has responded to the European Commission’s public consultation on the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act, outlining how geoscience can support Europe’s industrial competitiveness, strategic autonomy, energy transition and climate goals. While welcoming the initiative, EFG stresses that effective implementation depends on a strong scientific and technical foundation, with geoscientists playing a central role in responsible resource management and industrial development.

The Federation presents six recommendations, including recognising professional geoscientists in permitting and decarbonisation projects, integrating geological data into digital permitting systems, supporting geothermal energy and subsurface thermal storage, and recognising the subsurface as strategic infrastructure. EFG also highlights the importance of professional certification, ethical standards and geological expertise in ensuring safe, sustainable and resilient industrial development across Europe.
