On 8 July 2026, an extended meeting of the Committee on Subsurface Use was held at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the topic ‘Subsurface Use in Ukraine: What’s on the Agenda?’.
The event served as a forum for professional discussion of current issues relating to the development of the subsoil use sector, with the participation of representatives from government bodies, relevant institutions, the business community, industry associations and the expert community.
During the first panel discussion, participants examined issues relating to government policy on subsoil use, the development of the critical and strategic mineral resources sector, attracting investment, international cooperation and improving the regulatory framework.
The second panel was dedicated to the practical aspects of the sector’s operations. Key topics of discussion included the digitalisation of the subsoil use sector, the development of the Unified State Electronic Geoinformation System, the streamlining of procedures for granting special permits and conducting auctions, the approval of mineral reserves, the development of geological information, and the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Mineral-Based Industries and its Operational Plan.
Particular attention was paid to discussing the practical issues raised by the event’s participants. The open discussion provided an opportunity to exchange views on the current challenges facing the sector and to outline areas for further cooperation between government bodies, the business sector and the professional community.
The participants emphasised the importance of continuing constructive dialogue between all stakeholders in order to formulate effective government policy on subsoil use, develop Ukraine’s mineral resource base and enhance the sector’s investment appeal.
