During the meeting, experts from the EBRD and the State Agency for Geology and Mineral Resources discussed in detail the progress made in implementing the joint project “Ukraine: Reform and Development of Critical Raw Materials: Modernization of Geodata Management. Digitization of Documents and Maps and Development of a Portal – Local External Support and Consulting.”
This project has been underway since 2025 and involves the digitization of geological reports related to critical and strategic minerals. The second phase of this project was also discussed - the creation of geodatasets containing information on the geological age and composition of rocks that include critical minerals (CRMs), with a special emphasis on their content in these rocks.
The generated geodatasets will become the basis for modeling using neural networks. Through the use of neural networks, this approach improves on traditional geostatistical analysis, providing the ability to create detailed geological exploration maps.
Serhiy Vlasenko emphasized the importance of this project for the geological industry as a whole, as well as the interest in continuing cooperation on the development of software and technology for interpreting geodata using AI. This will make it possible to identify areas that are potential targets where exploration work can be carried out directly as part of the “Development of Ukraine’s Mineral Resource Base” program.
