The 5th International Professional Geology Conference (IPGC), held from November 5–7, 2025, in Zaragoza, Spain, brought together leading experts, companies, and stakeholders in the field. The event included a meeting of national geological associations, attended by representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Geologists (UAG).

The conference was organized by the Spanish Official Association of Geologists (ICOG), the European Federation of Geologists (EFG), and the Portuguese Association of Geologists (APG).

It featured a diverse program of activities, including plenary lectures, parallel thematic sessions, poster presentations, as well as courses and workshops designed for interactive knowledge exchange. Special attention was given to early-career scientists and dedicated educational activities.

The poster presentation “Ukrainian Geology in the Context of Contemporary Geopolitical Challenges” was presented by Olena Andrieieva (Chairman of the board) and Viktoriia Buchynska (Deputy chair) from the UAG.

Another poster, “Directions of Spanish–Ukrainian Scientific Cooperation”, along with samples of rocks and minerals from the exhibition “Geology for the Future: Ukrainian Geology in Modern Europe”, was presented by Hanna Liventseva (Geoscience Barcelona CSIC), former Chairman of the UAG (2017–2022).

Ukraine’s role was also highlighted by European colleagues.

The initiative “Science for Peace”, presented by Singeop President Guglielmo Emanuele, EFG delegate Claudia B. Mosandjini, and APRI International President Luigi Carunkio, paid attention and interest from the international geological community. This initiative emphasized the role of geosciences in conserving natural resources, restoring ecosystems damaged by war, and developing effective peace-building solutions, highlighting the environmental consequences of conflict and the importance of geosciences in post-conflict recovery.

The Ukrainian Association of Geologists sincerely values and supports this initiative from Presidente Singeop.

UAG, a member of the European Federation of Geologists (EFG), participated in the EFG national associations meeting in person for the first time. The session featured an overview of the UAG activities in 2025 and planned initiatives for 2026.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas and to establish new partnerships with colleagues from across Europe.
