The International Geological Congress (IGC) is the premier conference for the advancement of global Earth Science. It takes place every four years in a major city, attracting over 6,000 geoscientists from across the globe - akin to hosting the Olympics for Earth Sciences. In 2024, Canada won the bid host the 38th IGC, IGC 2028, in Calgary in 2028. The Scientific Program is inspired by the congress tagline “Geosciences for Humanity”.

The history of the Earth, from its infancy 4.6 billion years ago to the present day, is captured across The Americas. Against this backdrop, we will explore our human environment, climate drivers, resources essential for modern-day life, mitigation of natural disasters, corporate social responsibilities and Indigenous reconciliation.
